the quiet devastation of the Ace/King...

I am still reeling from a beat last night. it wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. for those in the know of poker here is what i had:

Ace/Three

the flop:

Ace Jack Three

okay so i had two pair

I bet half the pot, the other player calls

the turn:

Jack

at this point i go all in

my opponent calls.

she has ace as well, but she has a king kicker, i only have a three kicker.

so we both have two pair Aces Jacks. but her kicker is better than mine...

the river is a five and what once was the lead was now nothing... i said good night to everyone and pouted for a good seven hours... i even pouted in my sleep...

but i got to leave work early today! and headed back to st. louis. my friend pete accompanied me. we talked about music, venues, future jobs, local bands, labels, etc. and we also went on the the McDonald's McRib Farewell Tour II. I had never had a McRib before, so we stopped off in Kingdom City to get what was supposed to be this amazing sandwich. I'm not the biggest fan of McDonald's (except for McGriddles... that should be made illegal) but I felt the need to try this sandwich. Essentially it sucks. Its messy, it doesn't taste that good, and by all accounts I can't really tell if it is actual meat. It looks like it, but it doesn't taste like it.

So after trying to digest this sandwich... I got the chance to hear the new M. Ward album. It's really nice and mellow. Not to sell it short that its just some basic guitar and sleepy vocals, it fits many moods perfectly. He really has a nice arrangement of melodies and breaks up the pop song formula. There is this AM gold type of quality to the recording. It's warm and comforting.

Well I hope you all have a nice Thanksgiving... mine will be filled with food, sleep movies, and football... my version of a yearly hibernation. I might just turn my cell phone off. (that'll be the day...)

i'm glad i hitched my apple wagon to your star...

So as I mentioned before I teach 3-5 year olds at a Montessori school. Today was the yearly Thanksgiving Day Luncheon. So pretty much 18 students with about 18 extra family members. I always envision this scene of chaos and destruction, but it actually ran pretty smooth. The kids were great, and the parents were too... I have to start giving them more credit on days like this.

So I have been having trouble getting The Boy Least Likely To song "I'm Glad I Hitched My Apple Wagon to your Star" out of my head. It is pure sugar. I mean like the good kind. If I were ten I would make this my marching anthem.

Hey we got a nice write up from our local paper, The Columbia Daily Tribune. It was a tour journal about our trip up to CMJ and back.
